The Emergence [Upcoming Film From NSP]
In the western United States there are fly-fishing communities made up of dynamic individuals who share a common love for angling, but are far from the stereotypical image of stodgy old men “standing in a river waving a stick.” Out here, many of the people you see on the river fly-fishing everyday are the same ones you see ripping down the mountain during the winter or tearing up the dance floor of the Stagecoach Bar on Thursday nights.
In some ways this culture is nothing new. Even before the days when icons like Jack Dennis set up shop in Jackson Hole and Mike Lawson started up Henry’s Fork Anglers, there has been a community of anglers and guides who live to fish. However, in recent years the western fishing culture has seen an exciting youth movement that is introducing the sport to a new generation of anglers.
This explosion has been accompanied by a fresh wave of fly-fishing media. From magazines like This Is Fly and The Drake, to new production companies, such as AEG, Feltsoul Media, and BurlProductions, the focus of this new movement is on the excitement and culture of fly-fishing. Just as snowboard and ski films are synonymous with a lifestyle, there is a fly-fishing lifestyle that is both growing and for the first time being recognized.
The Emergence recognizes the pioneers of western fly-fishing, from guides to ranch owners, as well as the fresh faces who are discovering and expanding the sport. This is the story of the people who turned fly-fishing into a livelihood and the the cultures that spawned from thier passion and dedication.
